On behalf of our client, Hitachi Zosen INOVA, YER is seeking a Project Development Manager.

Job description

In this newly created position, reporting to the CEO North America and as a key member of the U.S business unit, you will be given the opportunity to identify energy from waste projects for greenfield development to ensure building an opportunity pipeline and manage existing project development efforts. Based on your professional competencies, this is an excellent chance to be instrumental to close contractual agreements with third parties and optimize business cases.

With your in-depth understanding of waste management and energy from waste technology, as well as ability to spot industry trends, you are an accomplished professional who navigates well in a technical and regulatory environment. You possess a high level of confidence, combined with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and a collaborative style that allows you to effectively leverage those attributes at all levels. You will be comfortable working in a small team that performs strategically at a high-level overseeing the various processes and stages of a project. You have the ability to quickly identify similarities and crucial differences, while balancing a variety of stakeholder needs and maintaining a 'big picture' view.


My client Hitachi Zosen INOVA (HZI) founded in 1933, with corporate group headquarters in Switzerland, has engaged us on an exclusive basis to recruit for this important role to realize their strong growth in North America.

HZI acts as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor delivering complete turnkey plants and system solutions for thermal and biological Energy from Waste recovery.

Their solutions are based on efficient and environmentally sound technology that has been thoroughly tested and proofed its value. The technology can be flexibly adapted to specific user requirements and covers the entire plant life cycle.

In an effort to work even closer with clients HZI has established a global presence in Europe and North America.

Candidate profile

Summary: Highly experienced project development manager with background in the energy generation sector, good awareness of State & Federal incentive programs as well as at ease within an international business environment.

  • Academic qualifications (BS) in mechanical or process engineering
  • Proven track record in industrial greenfield project development covering commercial, technical as well as public outreach aspects.
  • Familiar with energy generation, energy from waste technology (preferably anaerobic digestion)
  • In-depth knowledge of energy from waste market and competitive situation
  • Established network in the waste management sector.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Experienced in customer and consortium negotiations.
  • Customer focused and excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in presentation to various audiences.
  • Good knowledge of available State & Federal incentive programs
  • Dedicated, assertive and convincing personality with the ability to establish effective working relationships with different personalities in an international setting.
  • Self-starter, independent, genuine, passionate and open minded
  • Highly focused on driving and delivering results.
  • Commercial acumen, perseverance and flair for data/numbers in a technical/engineering setting.
  • Ability to travel (approx. 30%) mostly domestically and occasionally internationally
  • Fluent in English, any other languages beneficial
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Passionate about renewable energy!
